Hi Manju and Nathan,
Thanks for your help working through these issues. I had tried all your
suggestions and still had no joy, so I have just downloaded the latest
tar.gz of ant and installed it manually. It's now picking up ecj.jar
from ~/.ant/lib and I now have successfully compiled harmony on Fedora.
Would it be useful if I document everything I've done so it can go into
the wiki along with these instructions -
http://wiki.apache.org/harmony/DevelopmentPlatformConfiguration ?
Sure, it would be very helpful, thanks for your contributions.
There were a few tricks to it on fedora (mainly packages being named
differently to Ubuntu).
Regards,
Andrew.

Andrew,
Is /usr/share/ant/lib on your PATH environment variable? This is to check
you are copying to the right ANT installation folder.
Thanks,
Manju

Hi Manju,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Yes I downloaded it from here:
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.4.2-200902111700/index.php#JDTCORE
(That link is terribly well hidden by the way!)
The file I downloaded is ecj-3.4.2.jar
I placed it in /usr/share/ant/lib, which as far as I can determine is
where
ant was installed by yum.
But I still get the message saying "Please place the ECJ JAR in
ANT_HOME/lib"
I installed ant on Fedora with yum - the version is 1.7.1. There
isn't an
ANT_HOME environment variable set, but I tried this and it still gave
the
same message. So I'm a bit confused. Is there any other place it
might be
looking for it, or something I can run to double check I have the right
place?
Regards,
Andrew.

Hey Andrew,
About the ecj.jar, you need to manually download ecj.jar and put it in
your
ANT lib folder.
Thanks,
Manju

Hi,
Firstly I hope I am okay to ask this "newbie" type question on this
list...
I'm trying to build harmony on Fedora 10, following the
instructions at
http://harmony.apache.org/quickhelp_contributors.html
At the moment I am stuck with this error when I run the ant build:
/home/andrew/projects/harmony/common_resources/make/depends.xml:200:
Can't
get
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/harmony/standard/depends/libs/linux.x86.7x/icu-3.4.zipto
/home/andrew/projects/harmony/common_resources/depends/libs/linux.x86.7x/icu-3.4/icu-3.4.zip
Is there anwhere else I can get this file from?
And just as a more general question, has anyone else tried
successfully
to
build harmony on F10? The doco I could find all referred to
Ubuntu. I
think I've made some progress on finding the dependencies I need,
although
I'm still having trouble getting ant to find the ecj.jar file. If
anyone
has been through this and could point me in the right direction
that'd be
great. Otherwise, I'll keep documenting what I've done and perhaps it
will
be useful to someone else in the future.
Many thanks,
Andrew.
