I had problems running Hadoop CDH3U3 Pi Example with JDK1.6.0_32 on 64-bit CentOS this Summer; this specific version of Java 6 had a bug with floating point calculations on 64-bit Linux. JDK1.6.0_31 works just fine (no any sensible bugs encountered)

It'll break tests. Jimmy Xiang figured this a while ago and he filed https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-6182. He also started fixing some of the breakage. Lets help him out. Some reasons to favor JDK7 are JDK6 is being EOL'd soon and JDK7 reportedly improves performance by noticeably percentages. St.Ack
