The patch from HBASE-12016 doesn't apply to branch-1 due to the fact that
HBASE-7767 was applied to master only.
This JIRA is to backport HBASE-12016 to branch-1.
This can be done when HBASE-12035 is resolved and branch-1 is brought to parity
with master.
