At the moment my focus is on reestablishing releases on branches-1, so
I'm not directly concerned with when branches-2 update the version of
hbase thirdparty they use.

HBASE-23069 makes me assume that at a minimum branch-2 will update to
the new gson module as a part of updating other dependencies that are
in hbase-thirdparty.
