Hi everyone,

it's been a long time since I contributed and I'm sorry. I hope everyone is
well and it's great to still see some familiar names on the mailing list.

1,5 years ago a customer asked me to write a "better" Region Normalizer and
so I did.

I have to admit that I can't remember all the details on what we did but I
did clean up quite a bit. It might not all be backwards compatible. My
initial plan was to create a PR to contribute all of the changes upstream
but by now I have to admit that I can't find the time.

So what I at least wanted to do is to link it here in case anyone is
interested: https://github.com/stackabletech/hbase-normalizer

- It can optionally (try to) skip Phoenix tables which have salt_buckets
enabled without relying on Phoenix libraries
- It has many more configuration knobs
- Better logging and documentation
- It does not include the changes made by Charles in
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-27496 but those should be easy
to integrate
- The initial goal was to backport the HBase 3 normalizer to HBase 2 (CDH
5.16 version)

Anyone has my permission/blessing to take the code and contribute it
upstream. Taboola - the customer in question - has also approved and I'd
like to thank them for this!
I'm happy to answer questions.

Thank you!

Cheers,
Lars
