There is nothing that stops you from implementing a custom
[ConnectionSocketFactory|http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-4.3.x/httpclient/xref/org/apache/http/conn/ssl/SSLConnectionSocketFactory.html#44]
and handling SSL handshake differently from the stock version of HttpClient as
deemed appropriate for your specific application.
