Oleg Kalnichevski commented on HTTPCLIENT-1601:
-----------------------------------------------
The decision to not automatically retry any entity enclosing requests including
PUT goes back to the days of HC 2.0 and predates even my involvement with the
project. It was a conscious decision to keep things the same way in HC 4.0, and
not a defect. The tutorial describes that HttpClient does rather what RFC 2616
says. You are very welcome to rephrase or improve that particular statement you
deem fit, by the way.

> Open up [chapter
> 1.4.2|http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-ga/tutorial/html/fundamentals.html#d5e280],
> it says that {{PUT}} is not idempotent. This clearly violates [RFC 7231,
> section 4.2.2|http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7231#section-4.2.2]. It should be
> checked whether this is just a documentation flaw or even maybe an
> implemenation flaw.
