Hi Oleg
I have a question about how you usually handle release versioning in
HttpComponents.
More specifically:
- how do you decide when it is worth cutting a new maintenance release?
- how do you decide which fixes make it into the next release and which
ones should wait?
- do you usually batch fixes until there is enough value, or do you cut a
release as soon as there is one sufficiently important fix?
I am trying to understand the practical release discipline you follow for
the project.
Hi Arturo
Honestly there is no plan and no strict discipline. I generally try to
get a bug release once a quarter (unless there is a major a defect or a
security issue that warrant an emergency release) and a feature GA
release every year. However if anyone from ASF, especially a committer
on the project, asks for a release, I just go ahead and do it.
Now if you also start acting as a RM for some releases we can try to get
more formal.
Cheers
Oleg
