Removing "Non Constant Expression for Map Indexes not Supported" limitation.

Is there any thought on an effective way to make this work? I have written a 
first pass at a udf to do this here: http://pastie.org/1300279 but for some 
reason it keeps giving me nullpointerexceptions.
