Namit Jain commented on HIVE-1836:
----------------------------------
OK, I will file a follow-up task for 'alter database'.
I think, the simple semantics can be:
dont change the existing databases - the parameters are fixed at the time you
select the database.
I remermber, Oracle aso used to have the same semantics for a lot of security
related issues - it is much simpler

> We should be able to assign key-value pairs of properties to Hive databases.
> The proposed syntax is similar to the CREATE TABLE and CREATE INDEX commands:
> {code}
> CREATE DATABASE <DB_NAME> WITH DBPROPERTIES ('key1' = 'value1', 'key2' =
> 'value2');
> {code}
> The
> {code}
> DESC DATABASE EXTENDED <DB_NAME>;
> {code}
> should be able to display the properties. (requires HIVE-1821)
