The syntax for DESCRIBE is broken. It should be:
{code}
DESCRIBE [EXTENDED] [database DOT]table [column]
{code}
but is actually
{code}
DESCRIBE [EXTENDED] table[DOT col_name]
{code}

One solution (which I'm not eager to see us take) is to extend Hive's
non-standard as follows:

DESCRIBE [EXTENDED] [database] table[DOT col_name]

Anyway, I think it's OK to fix this as a followup.
