Points taken. However, I'm a little concerned that the solution here is a
little bit hacky, as a serde might have a property prefixed by "table.". In
that case, this may mess up. Instead, I'm thinking if it makes more sense to
define a new serde initialize API, and deprecate the old one.

With that, a serde is free to do whatever they need .
