Thank you for your analysis!
I think that both alter and create should set the serde. AFAIK it is populated
in the HMS despite not being set. If tests fail because an additional line of
output we'll just have to update them. Instructions on how to update them is
under "How do I update the output of a CliDriver testcase?" here
