I think Jekyll can be useful even OSS main site page because it will post some 
articles such as release note or news periodically like other Apache projects.
(Of course we can choose and modify not to post blog like articles)
Though Jekyll holds a build-in HTTP server, it can build HTML/CSS static page 
from markdown simply. 
So I think building a site with Jekyll can be an good option considering the 
variety of design and responsive design maintainability. 
Choosing a Jekyll theme and modify as we like (if the license permits that) can 
be an easiest way.
