Pablo, I think I even remember starting that thread. And it's been on the TODO list for HiveMind 1.2 (http://jakarta.apache.org/hivemind/todo.html) ever since. Only that we then thought version 1.2 to be months rather than years away...
As we're currently trying to cut down on work towards a fancier XML syntax I think this idea should now really find its way into the discussions on the registry construction API we're trying to work out.
