Oh, bah.  'Windows.'  'VMS.'  'MacOS' (not OS X).  I agree
with Sander that the thing that should be the same is the supported
commands to manipulate the server.  The details of implementation
have no need of being identical.  Although it *is* a nice-to-have',
I don't think it is anything more than that
