People took http://www.apache.org/httpd.shtml (html?) and started using http://www.apache.org/httpd/ instead, a very different URI, a very different relative base path. Images were broken, etc. But it (sort of) worked, because .shtml allows for path info, and httpd->httpd.shtml through our mod_negotation.
