prefork does not use threads.
        
i installed a server with perchild and this is a strip from my error log:

do you have a coredump? We the backtrace from it if so. otherwise, we can't do squat with these messages.


If this is Linux, you should see more text at the end of this message saying that there is a possible coredump. Make sure you have "CoreDumpDir /directory/writeable/by/Apache/User " in your httpd.conf or it's hard to get coredumps.

what kind of locking is your apr using? (hint: bin/httpd -V)
