Flops on BSD/OS 5.X
PLEASE accommodate for BSD/OS 5.X

a) not a regression; IOW 2.0.49 is not worse on BSD/OS 5 than 2.0.48 was
b) problem is apparently in libtool, something we can't fix anyway
