It is not a feature request; it fixes a crashing bug on AMD64.
This has been discussed, has been validated, and is included in
Gentoo (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70177) and probably
other distributions.
Need to test on non-64s. Unless I feel comfortable that it
won't break and 32s, I won't be adding it into 1.3.34
BTW, if the ASF is looking for help better maintaining the 1.3 tree,
I am sure that there are a few people on this list, myself included,
who would volunteer.
Certainly keeping us on our toes about patches that make
sense is goodness. But 24-48 before a tag and roll actually
is more likely NOT to make it in, simply because it means
disturbing the contents of a codebase which has been
stable right before releasing.
