But the original libtool line DID have a --mode=compile argument, so when adding --tag=CC, as in the example patch, +SH_COMPILE = $(LIBTOOL) --mode=compile --tag=CC $(BASE_CC) ... -->-------------------------->^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ then libtool ought not to complain, or does it?
