Functional tests are in https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/test/framework/trunk and are based on the Apache-Test framework. That's what most people are using to check a release and it's the best place to make sure your addition is tested on different platforms and not regressed. The other stuff on that page doesn't seem to be actively maintained.
