Thanks, Kevin and Russell. This is helpful.
I had already checked with the hosts of the September Iceberg meetup, and they
were supportive of us hosting another one and suggested I check with the dev
list as well.
That said, it sounds like the events may be a little too close together if
people regularly travel between SF and Silicon Valley for these, so we’ll push
ours out rather than risk competing for the same audience.
October is already pretty booked for us with in-person events, so we’ll look to
plan this for November instead. I’ll keep everyone posted once we have the
co-hosts/sponsors locked down and a landing page ready to promote.
Thanks again for the guidance!

Subject: Re: [DISCUSS] SF Iceberg meetup in late September

I'm also not in the SF / bay area but I do know folks travel up and down the
peninsula for meetups and events. My suggestion would be to coordinate with the
other hosts and see if there's general interest from the community.

I also want to reiterate the community guideline for meetups for anyone looking
to host: https://iceberg.apache.org/community/#hosting-an-apache-iceberg-meetup

As the PMC, I think we should probably stay out of this sort of thing. It's
probably best if you reach out to the hosts directly and see if they are ok
with it. Our goal with the blanket approval was to ensure no event would be so
large that this would really be an issue.

Personally, I would probably try to space them out a bit. When I was in my 20's
I could handle multiple meetups a week, now I am tired and have children and
once a month is more than enough for me :) I also don't live in the bay area
anymore so YMMV.

Hi all,
I’m looking at hosting an Apache Iceberg meetup in San Francisco during the
last week of September, potentially with a few partners who weren’t able to
participate in the meetup already scheduled the week prior in Silicon Valley.
Since the events would be in different parts of the Bay Area, my assumption is
that they’d likely draw somewhat different audiences, but I wanted to check
with the community and PMC before moving forward given the close timing.
Is there appetite for another meetup in San Francisco that week, or any
concerns with having the two events scheduled in back-to-back weeks?

Thank you,
