The ASF won't accept a donation for a specific project.

However, as you note, it's perfectly fine for a project to use external
resources (for some things ... we've been through that!). I know that
there's a fair number of build slaves, both Jenkins and Buildbot, that
aren't managed by ASF Infra; I have one in my basement, for example,
WANdisco runs a Sparc machine for Subversion's Solaris tests, VisualSVN
maintains a Windows box for tests ... and so on.

So sure, if GridGain wants to give Ignite devs access to a VM for
testing, that's fine. This is equivalent to paying someone to write code
for Ignite. You just can't write it off and/or advertise it as a
"donation to the ASF".
