We must have a way to communicate between platforms. Potentially this could be
any sensible mechanism:
1) JNI over Java byte[]
2) Offheap memory
3) Direct pointers to process heap objects
etc.
We must define an abstraction of "memory" which will give us a pointer to some
memory chunk which can be populated with data.
