Even if it got adapted, there still would be many systems that do not
use the patch.

What is wrong with the symlink-approach? 

"openofficeorg-<module>-patch" requires either openofficeorg-core = <version> 
or a
previous openofficeorg-<module>-patch = <version>

The only drawbacks I see are:
* requires --replacefiles to install
* loose the ability to verify the package/need for a custom
  %verify-Script

* not everything may work with symlinks (see problems with images.zip)
