Hi IoTDB community, I would like to propose that Apache IoTDB participate in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 under the Apache Software Foundation.
GSoC is a long-running program sponsored by Google that aims to bring new contributors into open-source communities through mentored summer projects. The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is registered as a mentoring organization for GSoC, and Apache projects can participate by proposing project ideas and providing mentors, following the ASF GSoC process [1]. >From the IoTDB perspective, participating in GSoC could be a good opportunity to: - Attract and mentor new contributors, especially students and early-career developers - Improve parts of the IoTDB ecosystem that are suitable for well-scoped, mentored projects - Increase IoTDB’s visibility within the broader open-source and academic communities According to the ASF GSoC guidelines, project participation involves identifying mentors, preparing an ideas list, and coordinating with ASF ComDev using the shared GSoC infrastructure: - Guide to being a mentor [2] - Using the ComDev GSoC issue tracker [3] At this stage, I would like to gather feedback from the community on this proposal. If there is consensus to proceed, the next steps would be to identify potential mentors, prepare a small set of project ideas, and formally coordinate with ASF ComDev. I would appreciate comments and feedback from the community, especially from PMC members and committers.
