This is an open source project.  Patches are source code diff files
and don't have versions.  They just apply to versions.

sorry for the confusion: i wasn't talking about a patch in the sense
of a diff, but a patch release, i.e. a collection of one or more such
patches applied to the minor branch (like jackrabbit 1.0.1 and 1.1.1).

We only produce releases from minor branches.  Branching on each
patch-level is suicidal -- the kind of thing you only want to do
when someone is paying for support.

also, with "1.2.1.1" i wasn't trying to suggest the creation of
branches from branches, i just meant to illustrate the possible
complications involved when using the patch digit for other purposes
as well...

however, i agree that with jackrabbit 1.2 already published, it's best
for now to use 1.2.x to avoid version conflicts. my suggestions were
merely for future releases.
