You're welcome. Participation works typically by using Jackrabbit,
finding bugs along the way, reporting them on JIRA, discussing them or
simply answering questions on the mailing list, testing issues from
other's and finally providing patches for bugs or new features that
are desired.

First of all see how the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) works:
http://www.apache.org/foundation/how-it-works.html

And for specific links in Jackrabbit see the section "Development" at
the right of our homepage:
http://jackrabbit.apache.org/

Most notably

http://jackrabbit.apache.org/source-repository.html

Regards,
Alex
