the effect of replacing tomcat

Hello

I saw a file SESSIONS.ser under tomcat/work. If the jackrabbit repository is 
not located under tomcat, can people replace tomcat freely? Would it bring some 
negative effect such as inconsistency of the Jackrabbit system?
