Queries containing exclamation marks (!) cause a generic RepositoryException
instead of a InvalidQueryException
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: JCR-3041
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JCR-3041
             Project: Jackrabbit Content Repository
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: jackrabbit-core
    Affects Versions: 2.2.7
            Reporter: Daniel Hasler

Trying to execute a query like "term !" results in a generic
RepositoryException.
The LuceneQueryBuilder should throw a InvalidQueryException instead of a
generic RepositoryException if he is unable to create the correct lucene query.

I understand from the documentation, that InvalidQueryException is only thrown
if there is an unbound variable, but I receive InvalidQueryException as well if
I have e.g. unbalanced apostrophes (") in the query (which in my eyes is
correct if we define the state of a query expression that cannot be parsed
correctly as invalid).

Therefore the documentation should be fixed to state that InvalidQueryException
is thrown as well if the provided expression could not be parsed correctly
(which is already true partially).
