I'm working on tools for better managing and monitoring the repository, and
increased JMX support seems like the best way to do this, so I'm in favor of
going into this direction.
However, I agree with the concerns raised here. There's no reason why
collecting statistics or exposing them through JMX should have *any* noticeable
impact on performance. If there is a measurable performance impact, then we're
doing something wrong.
