As discussed, we're getting close to cutting Oak 1.0, and I'd like to
have stable Jackrabbit release to for the Jackrabbit dependencies in
Oak 1.0. Also, it's been quite a while since Jackrabbit 2.6 was cut,
and the trunk seems to be in a pretty good state for a new stable
Jackrabbit release.

Thus, I'd like to prepare for cutting the Jackrabbit 2.8.0 release
candidate sometime next week. Apart from JCR-3667, all the issues
scheduled for the next release [1] are already resolved. If something
else comes up that you'd like to see included, please use the 2.8
version to tag the relevant issues in Jira.
