We discussed it on the mailing list back in September when this ticket was
opened.
The issue is not being Java 6 compatible, but given the guarantee for the next
stable branch that it'll stay Java 6 compatible - I really don't want to give
that, because it'll make it harder to use Java 7 feature in trunk (due to
backports).
