Julian, I'm not an actual jackrabbit committer, but as a developer using JCR for several years now, I can attest to the fact that one of the biggest technical barriers to new JCR devs is dealing with the massive amounts of examples and docs floating around the net that are for older versions of the code and no longer work (on current codebase), so I definitely think at least archiving as zips (and probably just deleting) all outdated docs would be a great idea.
