Thanks for doing the research.

1. Where should this documentation go? Maybe into the README of the rmi project?

2. We probably can shift the problem backwards by applying the change we did to 
older maintenance branches as well. That would make things more consistent. 
Good idea?

Finally, my concern re rmi is that it seems to be stuck in a state where many 
JCR 2 features do not work - or am I missing something. Can it really still be 
used in production?
