Yep, I discussed this on IRC after you left and reverted the chef commit before Andrew started the release. I preferred to do so due to some karaf failures in tge karaf PR, to avoid having to diagnose karaf stuff during the release. I left the details in a comment in the PR.
If you re-enable and build chef you should be able to build everything.
