something to point some of our developers at when they complain that
the algebra they see in our system is not the one they got when they
originally tested a query on sparql.org

Glad to you like it.
It is there to help discussions, whether on users@ or locally. And also
because I wanted an easily accessible tool to work with the algebra from
user questions.
Hence the buttons for showing the optimized form. it's the default
high-level optimizations -- an engine can pick and choose it's own.
