We have no idea what you have tested.
We don't know if you have covered all the requirements.
All we know is that you assert that your tests have not shown any problems.

Just as we expect a patch author to provide unit tests, you need to
show that the Gradle build does what we need it to do.

I don't disagree that it may be advantageous to move the files at some point.
I do disagree with bundling it together with the development of the
Gradle scripts.

Please don't take quotes out of context.
I never said otherwise; it was just part of an example of how we could
have approached a switch to Maven.
