Not true anymore. I was able to start it up and did one step in NetBeans (with my local hacked jruby-debug version).
Not that much but good start :)

Otherwise as you said Peter, threading (commands) are not supported. That's the reason, why it is hard to make it work from the IDE. But should not be hard to make basics work. I think it's just about some setter/getters - to make it work badly; and tons of polishing to make it work correctly.
