Hey, I'm looking to get involved with the JRuby project. I have the trunk compiling in Eclipse, but this is the first open source project that I've sought to be involved with. How should I start?

I have several years of Java programming experience and a year or two of haphazard Ruby on Rails experience.

Well take a look at the JRuby bug repo here:

http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JRUBY

And if you don't see any 1.1 bugs that you think are something you can tackle, start running Rubinius specs. That's a little more involved, but there's a bunch of probably-easy failures there that might be great newb issues.

#jruby is where most of us hang out, and if you want to contribute we'll happily walk you through getting specs running, or help point you toward specific issues based on what you think you can do.
