I noticed a somewhat strange pattern in these numbers: every second number is close to 0.80 and the other half are close to 0.55. This has been very consistent over several runs. I have absolutely no idea why. (I added the "sleep 10" in the loop to "stabilize" the system between each iteration in the loop, but it didn't affect the results.)
I noticed that too, and I have no explanation. My only theory so far is that every other hit is showing GC cost, but that seems like a weak explanation at best.
