Consider the following examples:
{noformat}
p "=5".unpack('Ma')
p "a=*".unpack('MMMM')
{noformat}
MRI prints:
["", ""]
["a", "*", "", ""]
JRuby prints:
["O", ""]
["a\357", "", "", ""]
This also leads to one rubinius spec test failure.
The proposed patch (with regression tests) fixes the problem.
