I am still waiting for JRUBY-1557 (http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JRUBY-1557
) to be fixed before I upgrade beyond JRuby 1.0.0.
I could write Ruby code to work around the problem, but I'm holding
out in hopes of not needing to do something I shouldn't have to. If
this doesn't make it into RC2, then I'll continue to hold out hopes it
will be fixed by the full 1.1 release.

JRuby 1.1RC2 will be out some time this week. All committers should
refrain from any large complicated patches until RC2 is out. You may
still fix obvious simple problems for the time being (like
uncomplicated spec errors). We are still looking at a possible
permgen problem and this has held up the release process. So it may
come out as late as Friday.
If there are any blockers or problems you think we should fix for RC2
let us know now. This is stuff along the lines of 'Rails does not
work' or 'we get JRuby to crash doing X'. Of course, if you feel
strongly enough about a particular issue then chime in on this thread.
It will at least be good to know what people care about and who
knows we may even get it fixed for RC2.
