BTW: since the build is mvn-based, it's easier to use mvn deploy to mvn

Actually, we've been moving away from the maven-based build and using
ant exclusively. I need to trim down the poms to just metadata only
and upload those along with the jar files.
I've created http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JRUBY-2876 to track this.
It can still be useful to use Maven just for the purpose of uploading
jars - however these are built or even deployed beforehand. An example
of this can be found in
https://svn.codehaus.org/jmock/trunk/packaging/maven/.
JMock as a project does not use Maven to build but simply to package and
deploy.
Advantages include the possibility to upload poms, javadoc, sources and
the uploaded files have signatures.
If you're interested I can help set up something similar for JRuby.
Cheers
