If you can try version 5.0.4, see if it helps with the problem.

So am I right in getting that this is a change in later versions of the driver? The one reported in the bug is 5.1.6. I'll have to talk to the original reported about their MySQL adapter version; perhaps they're not picking up the one from the jdbcmysql adapter but a more recent one in their system somewhere.
