After thinking about this a bit more, I guess I actually meant fork in
the "I want a place to commit patches" sense.
If we continue with Jline (and that's a big if) we would need to have a
full release process for it. That includes a new name, maven, etc. I'd
rather not have to do that if we don't have to. So the github clone is
more of a temporary patch dumping ground.
As Koichiro replied, he's working on an FFI-based readline that will
probably work better than Jline. The fork on Github will remain for
people that want or need to build their own with any additional patches,
and hopefully it won't come to the point where we need to make it a real
project.
For JRuby 1.2, I think we'll just stick with the existing Jline, bugs
and all. Hopefully readline-ffi will come along soon and we can
eliminate Jline entirely.
