For your interest, I have documented on my blog example of using JRuby
and Java and the JDK for processing XML as an alternative to REXML.
This provides a significant performance improvement for processing
XML, as well as provide a full set of features (e.g. validation).

Just another example of where I appreciate the features of JRuby over
