>What problems are people having with ruby-debug? I haven't used it myself,
>but I have some colleagues who have, and I think all you need to do is run
>"gem install ruby-debug", right?

Ruby-debug is very useful and a royal-pain to install.

Take a look at this jruby issue and follow the link to the instructions:

  http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JRUBY-4934

... ok, now imagine many users would get that wrong and write to the list
asking why it didn't work.

I agree that JRuby should probably not include gpl code but it's not a problem
for me.

Dwane and Rob,

Have either of you tried writing to the authors of the gems that are licensed
under the gpl to see if they would be willingto re-license under an additional
(perhaps Ruby's) license?

The parts are the java version of ruby-debug-base, ruby-debug proper, linecache
and columnize.

I think a great deal of java version of ruby-debug-base was written by Martin
Krauskopf <martin.krausk...@sun.com> who worked for Sun on netbeans.

What does columnize do? It sounds like something simple -- perhaps it's easiest
to re-write it.

JRuby is an open source project -- that means that in general changes happen
because people who need those changes work on them.
