How often does github fall over these days? At least one major advantage to having github as the primary repo (with a mirror on EC2 for the CI & backup), is the ability to trivally merge pull requests. It reduces the friction for contributions significantly.
As for the JIRA -> GH issues migration .. I agree, as much as I still generally prefer JIRA, GH issues sucks an order of magnitude less than it did when I first started using github.
